Raptors Ready for West Coast League Opener

After an exhilarating season opener on Wednesday night, the Ridgefield Raptors now look forward to the West Coast League season beginning Friday night. The Bend Elks come to town to start a three game series Friday at 6:35 p.m.

The Raptors finished the 2019 season by sweeping Bend, and now the Raptors play their first games of the 2021 WCL season against the Elks.

Friday’s game should have beautiful weather with temperatures in the low 70s at first pitch; Saturday’s game is also at 6:35 and Sunday at 1:05.

The Raptors-Elks series begins six straight home games for the Raptors to start the WCL season. After the Bend series, Ridgefield has a day off on Monday and then hosts the Portland Pickles for three games.

Fans got to see Ridgefield baseball for the first time in 661 days on Wednesday night. The Raptors hosted Cowlitz to kick off the Columbia River Cup rivalry. The team with the better record over their 7 games this season will earn the brand new trophy; Cowlitz won game one in a back-and-forth slugfest, 10-8. Caden Connor led the way for Ridgefield with two singles and a double, while Ridgefield pitchers racked up 11 strikeouts.

Raptors’ catcher Dominic Enbody made it feel like 2019 again; Enbody made history two years ago by hitting a home run in the 2019 season opener. That made him the first Raptor in team history to hit a homer. On Wednesday night, Enbody laced a single in his first at bat to record the Raptors’ first run batted in of the 2021 season.
